I think the map is one of most underrated inventions in human history. Picture an old atlas. To document every place on Earth, we could have organized the nations as a written list. Instead, we visualized the data. A map makes it easy to quickly understand that Antarctica is down here, while Greenland is up there. This same principle applies to the FieldView™ Cab app. This technology turns planting, application or harvest data into a format you immediately understand. The FieldView Cab app can track seed and population almost instantly, identify application issues in real-time and make refilling seed a much smoother process.

The FieldView Cab app makes planting data more accessible through visualization. Shown above is a planting map detailing the hybrid and population rate.

Start The Planting Season From Your Recliner

If you're like me, you're already anxious to start planting. When you're on the edge of a field, the last thing you want to be doing is typing in hybrid or variety names. By taking the time now, from the luxury of my recliner, I can use my iPad® and FieldView™ to prepare and plan before we even get the equipment out of winter storage.

After pre-loading your seed names, a master list will appear when you're out in the field. At that point, all you have to do is tap the one you're about to plant. No typing needed. Combined with seamless data collection using the FieldView™ Drive or the Precision Planting 20/20 SeedSense®, your next planting season can have fewer headaches.

The FieldView Drive plugs into your equipment’s CAN diagnostic port to capture both machine and field data.

Turn Real-Time Farm Data Into Action

The very first season we started using the FieldView Drive on our side-dress applicator, I was applying nitrogen on a field. While looking at the application map on FieldView, I noticed that, as the tank volume lowered, the FieldView Cab app showed my rate was jumping up and down. It would fluctuate 10–20 gallons from the target rate. I'd never seen that before.

After talking with my brother, we realized it had to do with the applicator’s hydraulic pump pressure. I needed to turn up the pressure to keep the rate consistent once the tank was half full. I have been running that machine for years but have never observed this problem. FieldView brought an inconsistency to light that our application monitor did not detect. That's what real-time information can give you. You don't know what you don't know.

The FieldView Cab app allows you to spot potential issues as you watch field maps build in real-time.

Sync Up Seed Delivery

The FieldView Cab app delivers a number of different metrics on field conditions and equipment.

It can be a real challenge to perfect the timing of seed delivery in the field — especially if you are using variable rate seeding prescriptions. You want your next seed to arrive just as your planter runs out. But this is easier said than done. One metric I'm always looking at during planting is "Acres Per Hour" on the FieldView Cab app. Using this metric, along with knowing your average seeding rate, you can do a quick calculation to estimate when you will run out of seed. It's little things like this that can keep you more efficient during planting season.
